About this Venue
West Chester East High School - home of the Vikings - is a four-year high school. The core curriculum of English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science is offered on four levels (academic, honors, seminar and advanced placement) for college-bound students. English Literacy and Math Standards courses are offered for less proficient students, as well as basic-level courses in Social Studies and Science. World Language courses are offered through the advanced placement level. Twelve additional acres adjoining East Junior High School (now known as J. R. Fugett Middle School) were formally transferred to the district by resolution on March 22, 1971 for the construction of a new high school. East became the second high school in the district, opening its doors for 900 sophomore and junior students in September 1973 (freshman students were housed in the East Junior High School). A new auditorium and ninth grade wing was completed in September 1977 as part of the District's move to a K-5, 6-8, 9-12 structure. With the board's decision to move to three high schools, East received another 75,609 square foot addition in 2004 that included a gymnasium and related physical education facilities, a science wing, a technology education area, and family and consumer science classrooms. All other areas of the original building were reconfigured and renovated and new athletic fields were added across Ellis Lane.
