Kailash Kher was born in a small village in Himachal Pradesh. He began singing at a young age, and his talent was quickly recognized. Kher received his formal training in classical music, and learned to play the tabla and the harmonium. In 1995, Kher moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in music. He soon met Paresh and Naresh Kamath, and the three of them formed the band Kailasa. The band released their debut album, Kailasa, in 2006. The album was a huge success, and it helped to launch Kher's career as a solo artist.
