In Pennsylvania's Lackawanna County, Dunmore is a borough that borders Scranton. 1835 saw the settlement of Dunmore, which incorporated in 1862. The population had increased rapidly to 8,315 in 1890, 12,583 in 1900, 17,615 in 1910, 20,250 in 1920, and 23,086 in 1940 due to extensive interests in anthracite coal, brick, stone, and silk. In 2010 there were 14,057 people living there.
There are three schools in Dunmore: Saint Mary's of Mount Carmel Elementary School, Holy Cross High School, formerly known as Bishop O'Hara, and Dunmore High School.
