In 1976 in Albany and surrounding areas there were about 250 Indian families. We used to perform Poojas in our houses. Some of our Indian family members then decided to have a place of worship. We should call them founders of Hindu Temple Society. These founders bought an old Church building and converted it into the present Old Temple which is also serving as current Priest’s quarters.
As the membership of Hindu Temple Society increased, with major contributions from dedicated members and volunteers, the present Hindu Temple was built and inaugurated on November 3, 1992.
In 2005 as membership grew to about 3000, HTS (Hindu Temple Society) felt the need for a Cultural Center for the community events. Again with the major contributions by dedicated members and volunteers, The Hindu Cultural Center was completed in 2007 at the cost of about Two Million Dollars without incurring any loans from the Banks. We should be proud of ourselves in building three magnificent structures to fulfill the needs of HTS members and the local community.
HTS has three Boards - BOT, BOD (Cultural Center) and BOG.I personally thank all the past and present office bearers and all volunteers for their dedicated service.
I strongly believe that the core strength and wealth of the Temple is in the pool of willing volunteers (over 100) who are making it possible to conduct all major festivals and programs and manage the ever growing Temple and HCC (Hindu Cultural Center) at minimal cost. I thank everyone for their contributions over the years. It is very heartening to see that many of them have been supporting and helping the Temple and HCC from the beginning. HTS has hired three very qualified, experienced and multilingual priests who are able to take care of all religious services. I urge everyone to make use of their services instead of going elsewhere. Temple Website includes profiles of our priests highlighting their skills and accomplishments.
