The Multimedia Studio Theatre, or MiST as it is commonly known, is a theatre space located on the University of Toronto at Mississauga campus. MiST was designed as a modern, flexible theatre space. It has a mezzanine that runs around the room to create balcony seating as well as additional performing areas. There are 5 seperate entrances (one upstairs, four downstairs) that allow performers to appear in any corner of the room. The theatre is contained in the new CCT building designed by Saucier + Perrot.
Although MiST is an English & Drama departmental space, it is used by many different members of the UTM community. It can also be rented by non-university groups. Generally speaking MiST is set up in a procenium style. There are two technical areas set up, a downstairs wall mounted A/V rack for class use, and an upstairs booth area with our Strand 300 console and a second A/V rack. This allows us to quickly change from a classroom to a theatrical lab to a show state. |
Everything inside of MiST is modular, or on wheels. There are drapery tracks that encircle the room allowing the various drapes to be moved to any location. The Theatre has 6 moving lights that allow quick and easy placement of lighting specials. Our technical control equipment is also portable; MiST has patch panels that surround the theatre and run to a large patch bay in the back room. This allows us to set up any piece of equipment anywhere in the room and control it from where ever we choose. The theatre is often used for everything from modern multimedia type performances to traditional dance. It also often acts as a venue for visiting professors and artists. |
