The origins of the term "tapster" date back to around 1617 in England, when it was originally used to describe a bartender who poured alcoholic beverages—mostly beer—from a tap.
For about 200 years, this moniker persisted in isolated English settlements before gradually disappearing in the 19th and 20th centuries.
In addition, tapster was revived in Chicago at the start of the twenty-first century, just when the lengthy lines for bartenders were reaching a fever pitch.
