Abhisek Lahiri is an internationally acclaimed Indian classical sarod artist known for his mastery of Hindustani classical music and his deep-rooted association with the prestigious Maihar Gharana. Born in Howrah, West Bengal, India, he belongs to a distinguished musical family and has emerged as one of the leading contemporary sarod performers representing Indian classical music on global stages.
Abhisek Lahiri primarily performs Hindustani classical instrumental music through the sarod. His playing style reflects a rich blend of the Shahjahanpur, Maihar, and Senia Bangash gharanas, combining traditional raagdari with innovative improvisation, tonal depth, lyrical phrasing, and rhythmic sophistication. Trained under his father and guru, Pandit Alok Lahiri, he developed a distinctive musical identity known for emotional depth and technical brilliance.
Originally from Howrah and Kolkata, West Bengal, India, Abhisek Lahiri has performed extensively across India, Europe, North America, and Asia while continuing to promote Indian classical music globally.
Abhisek Lahiri began performing publicly at the age of 11 and gained national recognition after being invited by legendary flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to perform at the “Saath Saath Festival” in Mumbai in 1997. In the same year, he made his international debut at the World Kinder Festival in the Netherlands, where he earned recognition as a “Wonder Kid.” He later became one of the youngest President Award-winning “A” Grade sarod artists of All India Radio and Doordarshan.
