Archana 2014 "it Takes A Community"

Continuing with a 20 year tradition, India Friends Association (IFA) offers Archana, a highly entertaining cultural program that entices all of your senses.

This year’s theme, “It Takes a Community” reminds us of the power each individual has to make a difference in our community when we come together for a common cause. Locally, that translates to over 100 volunteers giving their time and talents to produce Archana, a multimedia program that showcases India’s cultural richness and diversity through Indian dance, music and drama. While guests will feel transported to India for a fun-filled cultural evening,Archana also serves a higher purpose: to highlight issues that perpetuate cycles of poverty in India; to share creative, long-lasting solutions being funded by IFA; and to involve the community in IFA’s work.

Archana 2014 is expected to raise $150,000 and attract 1500 guests. Ticket sales and donations help fund grassroots community work in India to change the face of poverty. Funds from this event support projects that empower people in India to fight corruption, improve governance, obtain employment and healthcare, protect the environment and more.

A newly funded pilot program implemented by Rejuvenate India Movement seeks to reduce childhood malnutrition using a proven model. By recruiting and training local change makers, they will strengthen local programs, services, and healthcare delivery systems while developing a core of volunteers to support the efforts. Additionally, the $10,000 grant expects to facilitate release of over $100,000 in government deliverable food and services to reduce child malnutrition.

Archana 2014 takes place on Saturday, April 19 at 5 pm in the Fred Kavli Theater in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
