Experience
the Magic of Theatre with Y. G. Mahendran's Charukesi
Theatre is a powerful medium of art that
can entertain, educate, and inspire audiences. Theatre can transport us to
different worlds, make us laugh, cry, and think. Theatre can also showcase the
rich and diverse culture of India, with its many languages, traditions, and
forms of expression.
One of the most celebrated theatre artists
in India is Y. G. Mahendran, popularly known as Y. Gee. Mahendra or YGM. He is
an actor, dramatist, singer, playwright, and comedian who has been performing
on stage for over six decades. He has acted in more than 7,000 shows and
written and directed many plays that have won critical acclaim and audience
appreciation. He is also a versatile film and television actor who has appeared
in hundreds of movies and serials.
YGM is the son of Y. G. Parthasarathy and
Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, who were pioneers of modern Tamil drama and
education respectively. He is also the cousin of actress Vyjayanthimala and the
co-brother of Rajinikanth and Mohanlal. He belongs to a family of stage-lovers
who have contributed immensely to the development of theatre in India.
Charukesi:
A Psychological Thriller on Stage
YGM's latest play is Charukesi, a
psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The play
revolves around the life of an aged Carnatic Musician and his wife and how a
mysterious woman entering the life of their son, changes their destiny forever.
Who is the woman? What is her motive? How will the aged-musician and his wife
deal with her? The play will unravel these questions in a gripping and
suspenseful manner.
Charukesi is named after a raga in Carnatic
music that evokes feelings of pathos and devotion. The play also uses music as
a key element to create the mood and atmosphere of the story. The play features
original songs composed by YGM himself, as well as some popular film songs
based on Charukesi raga.
The play has been performed to rave reviews
and standing ovations in India and abroad. The play showcases YGM's mastery of
dialogue, direction, and acting, as well as his ability to blend humor and
drama seamlessly. The play also features talented actors like Madhuvanti Arun,
Harshavardhan, Sowmya Sampath, Srinivasan Narayanan, and others.
