Bismil Ki Mehfil
Bismil, whose real name is Mohd Asif, is a modern Sufi singer, songwriter, and performer from Delhi, India. He is best known for his live show concept “Bismil Ki Mehfil”, where he and his band present soulful Sufi, qawwali, and ghazal based music for today’s audience. Born on 19 May 1994, Bismil grew up in a family that loved music, and he started learning at a very young age.
From the age of five, he trained seriously in classical and Sufi music. He learnt from respected maestros of both the Moradabad and Delhi gharanas, including Ustaad Mohd Ahmed Qadri, Ustaad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, and Ustaad Aftab Ahmed Khan. This strong classical base helped him develop a powerful voice, a wide range, and very good control in live performances.
As he grew older, Mohd Asif took the stage name “Bismil”, a word used in Urdu and Persian poetry for a wounded or devoted lover. The name matches his emotional style of singing, where he often expresses pain, love, surrender, and devotion through his songs. In 2013, during his college days, he and his manager Vibhor Hasija created the concept “Bismil Ki Mehfil” to promote live Sufi music in a fresh and intimate way.
Musical Style and Identity
Bismil’s music is rooted in Sufi and Indian classical music, but he presents it in a form that young listeners can easily connect with. His shows usually have a full band with harmonium, tabla, dholak, guitars, bass, sarangi, backing vocals, and strong rhythmic clapping. The idea is to create a Mehfil, which means a warm gathering where the audience feels close to the artist.
He often performs Sufi kalams, qawwalis, ghazals, and poetic songs that speak about love for the divine, human emotions, and inner peace. At a typical Bismil Ki Mehfil show, the music usually starts gently and slowly builds into powerful, high energy performances where the whole crowd sings together. Many people describe his concerts as spiritual and emotional, not just entertaining.
Important Songs and Hit Releases
Bismil started releasing his own songs and covers on major labels and digital platforms in the last few years. Some key songs and projects include:

Live Shows, Tours, and Recent Events

This tour included nine cities in the United States and one in Canada, and it gave him a strong international presence among South Asian and world music fans.
For 2025, Bismil has announced a major “Main Hoon Sufi” India Tour, which will take Bismil Ki Mehfil to many cities across the country from October to December. Articles describe this tour as a large cultural event where audiences can enjoy evenings filled with poetry, devotion, and Sufi music. Several news outlets and event sites say it is expected to be one of the big Sufi music highlights of the year.
Along with these, he continues to perform at special venues. For example, he has performed at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, following top Indian performers like Arijit Singh and A R Rahman, and he is a regular choice for large weddings and premium events. He has also received awards such as the GIWA Award for Best Wedding Entertainer and the WeddingSutra Influencer Award for Best Live Entertainer for Weddings.
