Guru Purnima and Meditation Retreat Grand Celebration, Amma Sri Karunamayi

Sri Karunamayi Amma is venerated in India as a living incarnation of the Divine Mother. "Karunamayi" literally means "compassionate one". Amma warmly receives everyone as Her beloved children. Before Amma's birth, the great saint Ramana Maharshi told Amma's mother that she would give birth to the Divine Mother. In Her childhood, Sri Karunamayi Amma delighted all with Her deeply compassionate nature and intuitive understanding of Holy Vedic Scriptures, even though She never studied Sanskrit formally. At the age of 21, Amma withdrew to a sacred forest in southern India (where a number of India's ancient sages had meditated for many hundreds of years) and meditated for over 10 years on behalf of all humanity. When She emerged from this period of silence, Amma began her mission to share divine wisdom and love with the entire world. Amma Sri Karunamayi has said that She has not come as a guru, but rather as a loving mother who wishes to provide spiritual sustenance to Her children in their quest for Self-Realization.
