Independence is a small suburban community located eight miles south of Cleveland. Three schools house an enrollment of approximately 1,100 students and serve a community of approximately 6,800 residents.
The Ohio Department of Education has consistently ranked Independence Local Schools as "Excellent."
Advanced technology, as well as a dedicated and experienced faculty and support staff, work together to ensure that students succeed in meeting or exceeding their educational goals and expectations.
Independence High School is recognized by Newsweek magazine as "One of the Nation's Top Public High Schools."
Independence Middle School is home to many teachers who have been the Ohio Lottery Teacher of the Month, Plain Dealer Crystal Apple Teacher, and Guiding Star Teacher of the Year. In 2012, the sixth grade team was named the "Team of the Year" by the Ohio Middle Level Association.
