NARAYANEEYAM- NARAYANA KATHA
By Shijit Nambiar and Parvathy Menon with live music
Narayaneeyam is the story of Lord Narayana. It was composed by Melpatthur Narayana Bhattathiri. Bhattathiri, who was crippled, is believed to have penned this masterpiece sitting in the Guruvayur temple. Local legend says that on the hundredth day, he had the vision of the Lord and rendered a graphic description of this form, after which he was immediately cured of his disease
Shjit Nambiar and Parvathy Menon are young, talented Bhartanatyam dancers who have established a very high reputation internationally. They have produced classic shows like Krishna, Under the Banyan Tree and Meghdootam (all of them staged in Austin by IFA).Habitually performing as a duo, the dancer couple cashed in on their long experience in this show. Shijith Nambiar and Parvathy Menon’s presentation on the life of Bhattathiri and excerpts from Narayaneeyam is imaginatively choreographed and beautifully presented. The program includes a description of Guruvayur temple with daily Pooja, description of Lord Guruvayurappan, raas kreeda of Krishna and Gopis of Vrindavan, Mathura pravesham, followed by the Kuchela episode ending up in a magnificient Viswarupam, in the silence of the ‘paramananda sandoha lakshmeem’ prayer. Music by Rajkumar Bharati is evocative
Yes! Mankind is fortunate indeed, for having been blessed with the shrine of Guruvayoor, and the Lord, in the form of Guruvayoorappan, ever willing to grant the glorious vision of His charming form to, and shower His blessings on the multitude of ardent devotees who throng the shrine every day, some with desires to be fulfilled, many, thanking Him for favors already granted, and a few without any such thoughts, just to offer their humble prostrations. And when this bewitching image of the Lord has been presented at the behest of the Lord Himself for the benefit of mankind in the Kaliyuga, is not that mankind fortunate?
