Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sanjay Subrahmanyan began his musical
journey at the age of seven. Trained in both violin and vocal music by many
renowned gurus, including violin maestro V. Lakshminarayana, Rukmini
Rajagopalan, and Nadaswaram maestro Semponarkoil SRD Vaidyanathan, he later
specialized in vocal music after the age of fifteen.
Today, Sanjay stands as one of the foremost exponents of
Carnatic music, recognized for his dynamic style, deep classicism, and creative
brilliance. A dedicated teacher and a role model for students, his concert
career began in 1986, and he has since performed extensively across India and
abroad — including the United States, Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
Sanjay has released several recordings, and his journey has
been documented in the film Aaraar Aasaippadaar by filmmaker Prasanna
Ramaswamy. Among his many honors are the Sangita Kalanidhi award from The Music
Academy (2015), “Isai Peroli” from Karthik Fine Arts (2000), and the Sangeetha
Kalasarthy Award from Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha (2006). A Commerce graduate
and a qualified Chartered and Cost Accountant, he represents the rare blend of
intellect and artistry.
Known for his high-energy and crowd-pulling performances,
Sanjay’s music is marked by a perfect balance of classical depth and creative
freedom. His concerts showcase a fine mix of popular and rare ragas, expressive
alapana, intricate tanam, and impactful pallavi renditions — making every
performance a memorable experience.
Vidwan S. Varadarajan – Violin
S. Varadarajan began his violin training under Kanchi
Janardhanam and later honed his skills under T. V. Gopalakrishnan. From a young
age, he accompanied leading Carnatic musicians and earned acclaim for his
technical mastery and creative dialogue during performances. Over the past two
decades, he has performed worldwide both as a soloist and as a sought-after
accompanist, earning numerous awards and titles for his contributions to
Carnatic music.
Neyveli B. Venkatesh – Mridangam
Initiated into mridangam at the age of seven by his father
A. S. Balaraman, Venkatesh showed prodigious talent early on. He further
trained under P. P. Venkatesan and Ramanathapuram M. N. Kandaswamy. His debut
at the age of ten drew widespread appreciation, setting the stage for a
remarkable career.
An A-grade artist of All India Radio, Venkatesh is
celebrated for his mastery of the gumuki style, versatility with kanjira and
konnokol, and his ability to elevate every concert he accompanies. His 28-hour
non-stop mridangam marathon performance in Neyveli earned him national
recognition and praise from the then Governor of Tamil Nadu.
This event promises to be a grand evening of classical
excellence, bringing together three masters for an unforgettable Carnatic
concert experience in Austin.
