Hope for Ishani - Help Patients Like Ishani Find Their Cure

Hope for Ishani" refers to a campaign to find a stem cell donor for a 10-year-old girl named Ishani, who is battling leukemia. The campaign urges people, particularly those of Asian American descent between the ages of 18 and 40, to get swabbed to see if they are a match. Donors can also order a free swab kit by mail.

Ishani's mother, Sudipa Moitra Rawat, is actively involved in the campaign and has expressed her determination to bring her daughter home. The campaign emphasizes that a simple cheek swab can potentially save Ishani's life. Ishani is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and needs a stem cell donation for recovery.

Need for Donors

Gokul P Kesav, a rising freshman at Enloe Magnet High School, Raleigh, NC. I am leading the NMDP donor drive at FETNA - volunteer recruitment, working with NMDP and FETNA leadership team for volunteer trainings, and organizing cheek swab drive for Ishani Rawat, 10 year old kid suffering from relapse of blood cancer. I am passionate about helping the kid and the family, and need media help to spread the word. This will not only help the kid but also any other person in US for next 21 years, and there are very less donors in NMDP central donor registry.

Global CAUSE - Did you know Every 3 minutes, 1 person in the US gets diagnosed with blood cancer. And, there are less than 5% donors in the NMDP registry for Asians, and other minorities as ethnicity match is critical.

Help kids like Ishani, a 10-year-old kid in Raleigh, NC who has relapse of blood cancer , undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and is in critical need of a donor! So far there have been many National drives organized across 10 states for Ishani. As a result, 3156 new members were added to the registry - making it the second highest number in 2025 globally. Unfortunately, NO MATCH HAS BEEN FOUND YET!

A simple 2-minute cheek swab will enter people into the NMDP registry for the next 21 years. These 2 minutes could help you and all families in future too. People can opt out later if not interested. It's a non-invasive procedure (similar to blood donation) for stem cells if you're a match.

People can come in-person if you are in the Raleigh area as there are many events being organized. If you prefer to get a free mail-in swab kit, it can be arranged as well. 2 mins of your time can give the hope of life for someone for the next 21 years!
