Born in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, into a family where music was the first language, Subhalakshmi and Sornalatha were destined for greatness.

Their grandfather, S P Sivasubramaniam, was a multi-faceted maestro — vocalist, violinist, and composer. Their grandmother, R Sornambal, was a renowned Harikatha exponent. And their father, Akkarai Swamynathan, a respected violinist and guru, trained them from childhood.
