Harjeet Mehndi – The Voice of Joy and Tradition
Born on October 11, 1969, in West Andheri, Mumbai, Harjeet Mehndi grew up in a musically rich family. Guided by his father, Ajmer Singh Chandanji, and mother, Balbir Kuar, he began learning tabla at the age of 8 under the mentorship of his uncle, Professor Ranjit Singh. By 12, he was performing at the sacred Takht Shri Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara in Patna alongside his father and brothers.
In 1986, Harjeet moved to the USA and began his professional career as a tabla and keyboard player. Inspired by his elder brother Daler Mehndi, he soon transitioned to singing and carved his own identity in the music world. Trained in classical and Sufi styles, Harjeet’s voice carries depth, emotion, and versatility, performing in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Farsi, and Telugu.
Over the years, Harjeet has collaborated and shared the stage with legendary names like Bappi Lahiri, Manna Dey, Jagjit Singh, Anup Jalota, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. His repertoire spans Pop, Bhangra, Sufi, Qawwali, Bhajans, Ghazals, and more. His debut singing album “Nach Punjaban Nach” and popular album “Paaro” showcase his diverse musical flair.
Currently, Harjeet continues to charm audiences worldwide with live performances, special cultural events, and new music projects blending Hindi, Punjabi, and Sufi influences. His philosophy is simple yet powerful – “Be happy and give happiness to others”.
