Hailing from Mumbai, Ashish’s rise from local stages to international acclaim is a testament to his unmatched dedication, artistic innovation, and cultural pride.
Early Life & Education
Born on January 25, 1988, in Mumbai, Ashish grew up with a deep passion for dance. Though he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Birla College, his heart remained in performance. His natural flair for movement and stage presence saw him actively participate in college cultural events, soon evolving into a full-fledged career in the performing arts.

Ashish Patil is revered for his mastery of Lavani, the traditional folk dance of Maharashtra, often characterized by its rhythm, grace, and powerful expression. Beyond Lavani, he is trained in semi-classical, folk, Bollywood, and contemporary styles, making him a versatile performer and choreographer.

Choreography & Bollywood Breakthrough
Ashish’s signature style—rooted in authenticity yet reimagined for today’s audience—led him to choreograph for stage productions, TV shows, and films. His breakthrough into mainstream Bollywood came when director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was captivated by his viral Lavani performance “Bai Ga” from Chandramukhi. This led to Ashish choreographing the grand musical sequences for Netflix’s “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, marking his official Bollywood debut.
His work on Heeramandi has been praised for its intricate detailing, cultural sensitivity, and emotional depth, echoing the golden era of Indian cinema while elevating traditional dance.
Creative Production at Yash Raj Films
Before his full transition into choreography, Ashish Patil made significant contributions as the Business & Creative Head of Y‑Films, a division of Yash Raj Films focused on youth entertainment. In this role, he wrote and produced critically acclaimed and youth-centric content such as:
