Sanam Marvi – The Soulful Voice of Sufi Music
Sanam Marvi is one of South Asia’s most celebrated Sufi and folk singers, renowned for her powerful, emotive voice and deep connection to the spiritual poetry of the subcontinent. Born on April 17, 1986, in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan, she grew up immersed in music under the guidance of her father, Faqeer Ghulam Rasool, who was also a Sufi singer. From a young age, she trained rigorously in classical music traditions, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Abida Parveen, Reshma, and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan.
Marvi’s breakthrough came in 2009 when she made her debut on Pakistan’s Coke Studio, captivating audiences with her heartfelt renditions of Sufi poetry by icons like Bulleh Shah, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, and Sachal Sarmast. Her ability to blend Sindhi, Punjabi, and Saraiki folk with classical and contemporary arrangements has earned her critical acclaim across Pakistan, India, and the global South Asian diaspora.
Over the years, Sanam Marvi has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Royal Albert Hall (London), Carnegie Hall (New York), and major Sufi music festivals in Europe, the Middle East, and North America. Her music transcends borders, speaking to themes of love, tolerance, and spiritual unity.
Her accolades include the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence) by the Government of Pakistan and multiple Lux Style Awards. Beyond performance, Marvi is celebrated for reviving traditional poetry and making it resonate with modern audiences, keeping the spirit of Sufi music alive for younger generations.
With her hauntingly beautiful voice and profound connection to the mystical, Sanam Marvi continues to be a torchbearer for the Sufi tradition, bridging cultures and hearts through the universal language of music.
