Umer Shareef, TI, also spelled Omer Sharif, also known as 'King of Comedy', is a Pakistani stand-up comedian, stage, film and television actor.
Umer Shareef, (also spelt Omer Sharif) was born in Liaquatabad, Karachi. His original name is Mohammad Umer, he changed that to Umer Sharif when he joined the theater . He started his showbiz career in 1974 from Karachi as stage performer at the age of 14. He rose to fame due to his work on stage and his stage shows which are considered among the most popular in Pakistan.
Umer started as a background musicians in local parties and functions with a group of friends, some of them now living in America. Sharif became one of the most well known stage performers in Pakistan after his extremely popular 1989 comedy stage plays Bakra Qistoon Pay and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai. In both he starred with a Moin Akhter another well known iconic name of Pakistan stage, TV and film industry. Umer was one of the first who started to record his shows for videos rentals which played a major part in his success. Yes Sir Eid, No Sir Eid, followed by Bakra Qistoon Pay were the first stage shows to come out on video.
At the occasion of completion of 50 years of Pakistan's independence, he performed a play "Umer Sharif Haazir Ho". In this play every one (from every occupation) was called in the Court and a question was asked to each of them that what have they done for Pakistan in the past 50 years. Because of this play, the Lawyer's Association stated a case against him.
