Omi Vaidya is an American actor, director, editor, and writer of Indian descent, best known for his role as Chatur Ramalingam (a.k.a. "Silencer") in the 2009 Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots. Early Life and Education
Born on January 10, 1982, in Yucca Valley, California, Omi Vaidya was raised in Joshua tree. He graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and pursued higher education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, for two years. He then transferred to the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where he graduated with honors. Vaidya's interest in acting began during his high school years, and he further honed his skills through formal training in film and performance.

Early Work
After college, Vaidya started his career in the entertainment industry by working as an editor on horror and South Asian feature films. Simultaneously, he took on small acting roles in television series and commercials. He appeared in shows like Arrested Development and portrayed Sadiq in two episodes of The Office: "E-mail Surveillance" and "Fun Run". He also had a guest role in Bones.
Breakthrough with 3 Idiots
Vaidya's major breakthrough came with his role as Chatur Ramalingam in 3 Idiots. He auditioned for the part while visiting Mumbai and was selected after impressing the casting team with his delivery of Hindi dialogues, despite not fully understanding the language at the time. To prepare for the role, he was advised not to study Hindi or watch Hindi films, to maintain the authenticity of his character's accent and demeanor.
