Early Life & Background

Born on November 29, 1978, in Kutch, Gujarat, and raised in Mumbai, Shekhar was introduced to music at a very young age. He hails from a family deeply rooted in classical Indian music—his father was a music enthusiast, and Shekhar was trained in Indian classical music and the harmonium early on.

His musical foundation, paired with an innate sense of melody and rhythm, laid the groundwork for what would become a groundbreaking career in the Indian music industry.

Rise with Vishal–Shekhar

In the late 1990s, Shekhar teamed up with Vishal Dadlani, and together they formed the hit composer duo Vishal–Shekhar. Their debut as a composer team came with Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999), but it was their score for Jhankaar Beats (2003) that brought them widespread recognition.
