Shreya Ghoshal needs no introduction to an Indian Cinema lover. She first came into the limelight with her victory in the TV reality music show 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.' Bengali by origin; she has taken the Bollywood industry by storm and captured the fancy of the South Indian movie industries. One of the most notable characteristics of her singing is how she adapts to different languages and gets the pronunciation of words spot on as if they were her mother tongue! She is destined for greatness in the industry, with many awards and billions of fans behind her.
She was introduced to music at the age of four as she accompanied her mother on the harmonium. She was trained in Hindustani classical music by Maheshchandra Sharma.
She dated Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya for several years, and the duo tied the knots on February 5, 2015. She is a lover of non-veg food. Shreya is not only famous in Bollywood but has also given many popular hit numbers in South Film Industry. Shreya Ghoshal has sung more than 2405 songs in 20+ languages and charges approximately around 10 – 15 lakhs per song.
Her first song was a cover version of a Marathi song, "Ganraj Rangi Nachato," originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Bendhechhi Beena; her first studio album with 14 tracks was released in the year 1998. She made her debut as a playback singer for the film Devdas in 2002, for which she begged her first National film award for the best female playback singer. And undoubtedly, she has marked her presence in Bollywood with her unique voice and is one of the highest-paid singers in the film industry.
Many know only a little about the honor given to her in the US - The state of Ohio celebrates June 26th as 'Shreya Ghoshal Day'! This was following the new-age nightingale's performance in the state back in 2010, which impressed the governor who was in power then, Ted Strickland. Metro Times also described her as "Sweet and Smokey Soprano" for her choice of the low vocal range of songs. She has stood up against the use of auto-tune. She is also very popular on social media, with her fan-following numbers being on par with other iconic celebrities from sports and cinema. Shreya Ghoshal tours the US, consistently performing at various shows and even being the judge of a few reality music shows. Ghoshal performs in musical concerts around the world. In 2013, she went to Australia and New Zealand and performed at the Brisbane Convention Center, Dallas Brooks Center in Melbourne, the Sydney Opera House, and Vodafone Events Centre in Auckland. She performed at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in the United Arab Emirates the same year. The same year, she paid her respects to the casualties of excessive rainfall in Mauritius with a concert at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre in Pailles. Along with Hrishikesh Ranade, she also made a stage performance during the 18th annual day celebration of the Airports Authority of India. She made London tours where she performed twice in Royal Albert Hall in 2013 and 2014. On the first tour in 2013, she also celebrates 100 years of Bollywood by performing many old Bollywood hits songs.
In 2006, along with Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Shiamak Davar, Ghoshal performed the theme song of the 2010 Commonwealth Games at its closing ceremony as an invitation to everyone to the following Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The same year, she and Nigam recorded the title track "Haath Se Haath Milaa" for the album the BBC World Service Trust put together as part of an AIDS awareness campaign, where profits garnered through the album were donated to HIV charities. In 2011, she became the brand ambassador for Joyalukkas Jewellery.
In 2016, Ghoshal performed a charity event to support a 17 years old patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In the same year, Ghoshal performed her concert in Sydney Olympic Park. In 2017, she performed concerts in the US with a forty-member live Symphony band at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
