Early Life and Education

Annu Kapoor was born on February 20, 1956, in Itwara, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, into a culturally rich family. His father, Madanlal Kapoor, owned a travelling Parsi theatre company, while his mother, Kamal Shabnam Kapoor, was a poetess and classical singer. He was initially named Anil Kapoor but later changed it to Annu Kapoor to avoid confusion with Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor.

Despite financial struggles, Kapoor pursued his education at the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi, where he honed his acting skills.

Theatre

Kapoor started his career in theatre, performing with NSD's Repertory Company, where he showcased his talent in various classical and contemporary plays.

Film Career

Annu Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Mandi (1983), directed by Shyam Benegal. He gained widespread recognition for his role in Utsav (1984), produced by Shashi Kapoor.
