Euphoria was formed in 1988 by a then medical student Palash Sen and his friends. ’Euphoria’ is a state of mind that one gets in the psychological state of hypomania where an individual is at her creative best. Dr. Palash Sen and his band members believed that their band is always at their creative best, hence they named the band Euphoria.
Moving through several line-ups, in first few years the band kept searching for their elusive break. It came 10 years after their inception when Euphoria released their first studio album titled 'Dhoom' in October 1998 to critical acclaim and commercial success. Their first single was titled 'Dhoom Pichuk Dhoom' – and it became the most popular video to hit TV screens in that decade. The video became a benchmark for non-Bollywood music videos.
They created the magic by using local music style from two Indian states and languages – Hindi and Bengali. Intelligent use of traditional Indian musical instruments like tabla, dholak, flute with new age instruments like drums and guitar mesmerized all Indians. This unique style of presenting Indian traditional genre in a contemporary fold became the trademark of Euphoria.
After ‘Dhoom’ they continued their success with singles and albums where they used symphony of musical instruments, romantic melodies and thoughtful lyrics. They delivered big hits like 'Maeri', 'Aana tu meri gully' and lot more... Their music album ‘Mehfuz’ had no title song, instead it started on an auspicious note with the sound of a 'shankh’. From 'shankh' to guitar to mouth organ to harmonium, there is always a distinct Indian feel in their songs. The way they bring together number of musical instruments, gives a lively edge to the number.
They adopted south-Indian Konkani music style in their song ‘Dil’, infused Qawalli in ‘Polly-Gami (Bewafaa)’, used Hindi folk in ‘Maeri’ and many more. Tapping into the tapestry of ethnic Indian music, Euphoria has created home for itself in the hearts of music aficionados and supporters in India and abroad.
The journey that began 20 years back is continuing till date. Euphoria has released eight commercially successful albums. They traveled around the world for performances and a big number of their fans assembled wherever they went.
Beyond all of these numbers, the Euphoria band is celebrated in India because of their contribution to Indian music. Their soulful songs are originated from Indian root, linguistically purely Indian and represents Indian life, history and culture. Their latest release, a new track titled 'Vande Mataram' on the occasion of Independence Day, August 15, 2019 was originally penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1882 in a Bengali novel. Euphoria gave it a new touch with their music style and appropriately featuring four Indian traditional dance forms on its music video.
