Indian vocalist Sunitha Sarathy performs both Indian contemporary music and Western classical music. She sings gospel music and participates in a number of church choirs. Sarathy made her film playback debut in 2002 after taking first place in the "Virgin Voice Choice" competition, which was a joint project of Virgin Records and Channel V in the year 2000.She made her playback singing debut in the Tamil movie Yei! Nee Romba Azhagey Irruke, where she sang the prelude and interlude to the song "Ini Naanum Naanillai," which was performed by Srinivas and Sujatha Mohan. Sarathy has performed as a singer-keyboardist-percussionist throughout a wide range of Western music genres, including classical, jazz, soul and R&B, neo-soul and quiet storm, and has nearly 200 film songs in several languages.
