The 75 year old legendary playback singer was born on 10th January 1940 at Fort Kochi, Cochin, Indian empire. K.J. Yesudas has rendered his voice for more than 60,000 songs in 17 languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Malay, Russian, Arabic, Latin and English. Undoubtedly, he is familiar with all the genres starting from Indian Classical, Devotional and Cinematic songs.
Called as Kattassery Joseph Yesudas by birth, later people named him as Gana Gandharvan meaning The Celestial Singer. The musical genius has composed for number of Malayalam film songs in the 1970s and 1980s. Yesudas is the record holder of maximum number of Awards by a playback singer in India. He is the recipient of 7 National Awards (the most by any Indian Singer) for the Best Male Playback Singer and 43 State Awards from the Governments of Kerala, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal.
Indian Government presented him the Padma Shri Award in 1975 and Padma Bhushan Award in 2002.
